Crowd at Kathouse during The NoiseFM

Hey everybody!

Thanks for tuning in this week. Another rough start, but Derek and I are beginning to figure things out. I hope y'all enjoy listening as much as we enjoy doing Manhattan. I was privileged enough to go see Abandon Kansas, Windsor Drive, and The NoiseFM at Kathouse Lounge last night (Thursday). It was definitely a good time. I got a chance to talk to the bands before the show and they were all really cool guys. It was interesting to see the different experiences that these up-and-coming bands have on the road.

Abandon Kansas is a band I have been following for the past few years and they were recently signed to Gotee Records and had a music video released last week for "Close Your Eyes" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yknrPYhZkE) which we discussed during our first show. It is really cool to see a band from Wichita work as hard as they do get signed to a national label and get recognition. They were in the arts and entertainment section in the Wichita Eagle today previewing their tour they are just kicked off (http://www.kansas.com/entertainment/story/1176787.html).

Windsor Drive is a band from Wisconsin based out of Houston. They are really cool guys with a similar sound to Keane and a really good live sound. They started in 2006 and have been touring ever since. They are currently on tour with Abandon Kansas.

The NoiseFM is a local band from Lawrence. They have played in Manhattan and said they have enjoyed playing here. They opened up the show and were a very good live band. I got a chance to talk to Alex, the lead singer, about balancing work and playing in the band. He said it was difficult to do at times, however he, along with his band, found it worth doing.

Overall there was a good crowd and the show was a blast. Kathouse is a great venue and they support local music in a big way. All of the bands were awesome and if you have the chance they are worth seeing if you ever get the chance. Their Myspace pages are worth a look:
